Sugar, Spice, and Everything Nice in Sugar Land
The Sugar Land Cultural Arts Foundation (SLCAF) generously provided over 70 students in Fort Bend County approximately $8,000 in scholarships to participate in local Fine Arts summer camps. SLCAF is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit arts organization that exists to enhance the quality of life and tourism in Sugar Land and Fort Bend County by advocating, supporting and promoting the cultural arts through programs, initiatives and alliances. The Foundation also exists to preserve and present historic Sugar Land Auditorium as a venue for the cultural arts and resource for the Sugar Land community.
SLCAF gave 14 young people $2,100 in scholarships to attend summer theatre arts camps sponsored by Inspiration Stage. Located in Sugar Land, Inspiration Stage is a national award-winning performing arts studio and theatre offering classes for ages four to teens and performance opportunities for youth and adults. The summer camps were held at the historic Sugar Land Auditorium.
SLCAF offered four students $830 in scholarships to attend Visual Art camps at the Sugar Land Art Center & Gallery. Sugar Land Art Center & Gallery is a non-profit organization that strives to provide an inspiring environment for the creative individual. Their mission is to provide Arts access to all, especially children and the elderly, through art education and awareness.
Finally, 53 Fort Bend ISD students were offered full and partial scholarships in the amount of $4,995 to attend summer Fine Arts camps sponsored by the District’s Fine Arts Department. The FBISD Fine Arts Department exists to inspire artistry and equip students to reach their full potential, thus creating opportunities without boundaries. The Department’s Summer Camp offerings included a Visual Art Camp for middle and high school students, a Band Camp and an Orchestra Camp for middle school students, a Theatre Camp for middle and high school students, as well as Dance and Choir Camps for high school performing artists.
These Fort Bend County students are grateful to the SCLAF Board of Directors for their generous funding of scholarships for these local Arts students to attend summer camps. The summer camps provide a way for students to hone their artistic skills in a collaborative environment. Granting students the opportunity to express their creativity promotes the mission of the Foundation.
